We Are One City United
We believe a thriving city is simply the sum of its transformed lives. Healthy connection is the avenue of transformation.
Hope
begins when a person realizes their inherent worth within a tight-knit circle of peers. It is the foundation of our belief that personal transformation is possible and that you cannot heal in isolation.
Change
is the active, sometimes challenging process of barrier remediation and skill-building that helps end crisis, poverty, and addiction. Through high grace and high truth, change is how we equip individuals to transform their lives.
Opportunity
gives us the space to show ourselves and those in our lives who we have become, allowing us to be catalysts for community-wide change. It proves that a thriving city is simply the sum of its transformed lives.
OUR STORY
How Did We Get Here?
One City United, also known as One City, is a non-profit in Waterloo, Iowa. We are backed by five years of research, studying the underlying issues related to poverty in Waterloo.
We exist to connect people to resources and organizations providing services that help end crisis, poverty, and addiction and equip those who desire transformed lives. Our mission began with five years of research and development conducted in underserved neighborhoods. We identify needs (gaps) and move to action to find solutions, equipping people. We also collaborate with other organizations, businesses, churches, and individuals to better our community. Before becoming a 501c3, we started working with local youth in the arts, as a preventative measure, after violence had increased in Waterloo. We realized there are many underlying issues related to poverty in Waterloo that needed to be addressed, and it would mean unifying our community to work together to make a difference and create change.
